I know I mentioned the strange (at least to me) bra habits of porteñas in an earlier post, but a sighting yesterday has forced me to return to the issue. Now, visible bra straps, like a regular bra with a racer back or tube top, while somewhat tacky are understandable. I generally hate using convertible bras because I find that they pinch and twist so I understand that other women think “fuck it, I’ll let the world see my glitter straps today.” Also, those clear bra straps will never be found in my drawers even if they’re spun from moonbeams. They make me think of those weird plastic loops that are sewn into some shirts so they don’t fall off the hanger in the store. Anywhoo, in short, I sympathise with the visible straps.

However, I DO NOT sympathise with what I saw on a youngish woman on the subte yesterday. She was wearing a regular shirt with sleeves, I think a v-neck, with what I presume was a cami underneath. Perfectly normal, right? Except for the fact that she was wearing a clear strap bra as a halter bra and the straps were so horribly twisted that my skin pinched in sympathy. Why would you do that? She could easily get away with wearing a regular bra, but instead decided to show the world that a) she was wearing a bra and b) she is incapable of putting on said bra correctly.

It probably doesn’t help that my own shoulders and collar bone region are so badly sunburned that any kind of bras make me writhe in pain and itchiness. Which leads to interesting days at work.
