Things I see in Buenos Aires

Long week

So, you guessed it, this week has been long and frustrating, but not without its share of interesting sightings.

Every day when I go to work I walk past a pizzeria on a corner. It’s called Kentucky and has great pizza and empanadas and in the morning they have coffee and media lunas for breakfast. Every time I walk by I think about how nice it would be to skip work and just sit there feasting all day, but unfortunately that will never happen. However, one morning this past week I witnessed a couple beating me at my own (imaginary) game by sharing a liter of beer at 7.20am. Hair of the dog? I certainly hope so.

I also love seeing traditional North American Christmas decorations on sale here. The temperature is sometimes above 80 degrees, but they are still selling enough snowmen and tinsel to suffocate the entire city. It’s honestly surreal. But the best is when the shopping malls start having Santa visits. It’s hilarious to see little kids wearing shorts and t-shirts frolicking with sweaty elves in fake snow. Being from a (very) northern state I cannot imagine Christmas without real snow and the blistering cold.
