So it suddenly started raining very hard here which means one thing in Bs.As.: the streets will be flooded. They have problems with the sewers so they don’t drain the streets well, especially at intersections. Of course it started raining about 15 minutes before I had to leave work and I had a private English class scheduled for directly after work. As you know I usually walk all the way home, but today I decided to take the subte 2 stops so I might possibly arrive to my class with some dry skin. Unfortunately when I came up from the subte stop I saw that the intersection was so badly flooded that it covered the sidewalk with no less than 2 inches of water. I tried my best to walk the 3 (3!) blocks to my class, but after going less than half a block I realized that there was no way I was going to arrive anything other than soaked to the bone. I cancelled my class (my student did not complain) and made 2 block trek to my apartment, again crossing a completely flooded intersection with disgusting water that came halfway up my calves. Of course I was wearing new, cute, leather sandals that have given me a few blisters and now I’m worried that I’ll get tetanus or gangrene in my feet. Ugh. Just to make things worse about 20 minutes after I finally got home the rain has completely stopped and the sun is shining.
So, did I see anything interesting during this downpour? Well, mostly I was concentrated on holding my (broken) umbrella up, but while I was walking home I did watch a woman walk out of an internet cafe in white socks and carrying her shoes. Really?? Come on lady! Are your shoes that important to you?
Happy Friday!
